Wat Huay Pla Kang in Chiang Rai, also known as "Big Buddha of Chiang Rai", is known for its enormous white statue of Guanyin. Wat Huay Pla Kang is a mix of Thai Lanna a n d Chinese stvles. On the grounds are a huge statue of Guanyin, a nine tiered pagoda and a Thai temple. Surrounded by green hills, Big Buddha of Chiang Rai is a great place to watch the sunset. Visit early morning or late afternoon to enjoy the serene, peaceful atmosphere. There's a huge car park where you can take a free shuttle to the Guanyin statue. Don't miss the inside of the statue at the 25th floor for the view but also for the carved interior with sculptures and statues, very impressive !It costs 40 THB to take the lift to the top. I didn't have the occasion to visit the temple at night, but I saw beautiful pics of the 3 temples illuminated, so l'd recommend to go there before sunset to enjoy the place day and night. On the grounds are stands where you can get food and snacks, drinks, coconut ice cream and souvenirs.
