Heiwa dōri Shopping Street

is a landmark pedestrian-only walkway in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan's first permanent pedestrian-only street, featuring a variety of shops, restaurants, and sculptures. 

Things to See and Do

  • Stroll and Explore Walk along the 1 km street, which runs from JR Asahikawa Station, to enjoy the local atmosphere, public art, and unique local shops. The street is lined with numerous bronze sculptures and benches, making it ideal for a leisurely cultural stroll.

  • Shopping The avenue features a blend of large-scale stores like the Feeeal Asahikawa mall, specialty boutiques, souvenir shops, and drug stores.

  • Dining and Nightlife The area is home to various eateries, cafes, and izakayas (Japanese pubs). The side alleys, such as the nostalgic 5-7 Koji Flourito and Furarito alley, host many unique restaurants and bars, including the historic Hachiya Gojo Founding Store ramen shop.

  • Seasonal Events The street is a central location for local events. Notably, during the Asahikawa Winter Festival, it hosts the World Ice Sculpture Competition, creating a festive scene.
