šŸ“ Antiochos Sarayı Kalıntıları (Palace of Antiochos Ruins)

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ ENGLISH

  • Why Visit?: Standing as an open-air "ghost palace" right in the bustling heart of Sultanahmet, these ruins offer a rare, raw glimpse into 5th-century aristocratic Byzantine life. Built for Antiochos, a powerful Persian eunuch and tutor to Emperor Theodosius II, this grand complex was later converted into the Church of St. Euphemia in the 7th century, making it a fascinating dual-layer historical site.

  • What to Do?: Take a stroll through Mehmet Akif Ersoy Park (located right next to the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum) to inspect the surviving brick foundations, and trace the outlines of the unique hexagonal dining hall (triclinium) that once hosted imperial banquets.

  • Insider Tip: Because these ruins sit unprotected in a public park, thousands of tourists walk right past them every day, mistaking them for random old stone walls. To truly appreciate their scale, head inside the neighboring Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum (Ibrahim Pasha Palace) and look out from the upper-floor windows; the elevated vantage point gives you a perfect bird's-eye view of the palace’s geometric layout that is impossible to see from the ground.
