The Fontana della Barcaccia is a charming Baroque-style fountain located at the base of the Spanish Steps in Rome's Piazza di Spagna. Designed by Pietro Bernini in the early 17th century, this fountain resembles a half-sunken ship overflowing with water into a small basin. Legend has it that the inspiration for this unique design came from a boat carried by the River Tiber during a flood in 1598. Despite some unfortunate incidents of vandalism over the years, including damage caused by drunken tourists (!don't be them, please!) and rowdy football fans, the fountain has been lovingly restored multiple times, most recently in 2014 through a generous private donation.
