About the Forbidden City

Built from 1406 to 1420, this place was off-limits to everyone except the emperor, his family, and eunuchs – hence the name "Forbidden City." With its grand architecture and rich history, it's now a popular tourist attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has become symbolic of both the city, and China as a country.

Tickets will often sell out online weeks in advance online, but not to worry. Foreign tourists are semi exempt from this due to the udnerstanding that wechat is not a common app outside of China, so if you go to the main ticket office, you can get a ticket on the day.
