Loads of locals reckon this is their favourite day walk in New Zealand as its really full of adventure and good fun. Big disclaimer though, only tackle this one in dry, sunny weather. It involves climbing up rock faces and crossing flowing water, so it can get pretty dodgy and unsafe when it’s wet. Yeah, that’s tricky in Fiordland with all the rain, but seriously, don’t risk it.

The trail’s about 8.5 km return with 650 m of elevation inclined. The first couple of kms are pretty flat as you wander through the valley, but then the real challenge kicks in,  steep climbs, rocky bits, and river crossings. It’s not for the faint-hearted. If you’re up for it, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the valley and Milford Sound. Just make sure you check the forecast, bring proper gear, and watch your step on those slippery rocks!
