Iconic geological formation

The Nut State Reserve in Stanley, Tasmania, is home to the iconic geological formation known as The Nut, a 143-meter-high massif jutting out from Bass Strait. It’s a fantastic spot where you can either hike up or take a chairlift ride, which adds a bit of fun to the experience. The walk up isn’t too long, just steep, and should only take about 10-15 minutes. When I visited, I opted for a one-way chairlift ticket to get up and then walked down, best of both worlds! The chairlift costs $21 for a return trip or $14 for a one-way ride.

Once you reach the top and are on The Nut hehe, there’s a 4.6-kilometer circuit walk that takes you around to various lookouts and vantage points. It’s a delightful and easy stroll that’ll take about an hour to complete. From the lookouts, you can soak in stunning views of the coastline, Bass Strait, and the rich farmland and forests that the northwest is famous for.
