The Whakarewarewa Forest redwoods in Rotorua are a must for nature lovers, and as someone who loves the Redwoods in Victoria, Australia, I knew I’d be captivated here too. The forest spans over 5,600 hectares and is home to majestic Californian Coast Redwoods, offering a peaceful retreat into nature. Whether you’re into mountain biking, walking, or horse riding, there’s something for everyone here.

While there are a few paid activities like the Redwood Treewalk and Altitude High Ropes, I personally think the forest is best explored on foot, especially if you’re traveling on a budget. One trail I highly recommend is the Redwood Quarry Loop Track. It's 4.5 kilometers long and will have you completely immersed in the magic of the trees, feeling like a forest fairy.

There are so many trails in the forest, all with connecting paths, which let you make your own route. Just make sure to download a map before heading out since it can get a little tricky to find your way sometimes. But don’t worry too much, there are plenty of fellow explorers around, so asking for directions is always an option. If you're into biking, this place is also a hotspot for that.

No matter how you choose to explore, you’ll be treated to a peaceful stroll among towering trees that let you truly connect with nature, just remember not to touch the trees, as the bark on redwoods cannot regrow once worn down from human contact.
