The Covenanter Oak, located on the Dalzell Estate in Motherwell, is a historic tree over 800 years old. Back in the late 1600s, during the time of the Covenanters being hunted, the Hamilton family allowed secret worship services to be held under its branches. Despite the risks, up to 400 Covenanters would gather there to hear Rev Lauder preach. In 2008, part of the tree collapsed due to fungus, but with added support, it still stands as a poignant reminder of Scotland's religious history.
