San Sebastián , Spain

One of the easiest ways to enjoy San Sebastián without overspending is to mix lighter, cheaper stops with one standout meal per day.

Cold pintxos are displayed on the counter of most traditional pintxo bars – typically €2-4 per cold pintxo.

Hot pintxos are made fresh to order and are usually written on a chalkboard in a traditional pintxo bar – typically €4-8 per hot pintxo.

Earlier in the day

  • Pintxos are generally smaller and easier to pace

  • Prices are usually lower overall, and bars are less intense

  • A great time to hop between bars without committing to a full meal

Later in the day

  • Evenings are better suited to hot pintxos or a sit-down meal

  • Portions are bigger, flavours are richer, and prices are higher (not necessarily all pintxo bars)

  • In the evening, locals typically pick one place and stay longer, rather than bar hopping as they do at lunchtime — it’s calmer, more enjoyable, and gives you the chance to properly soak up the atmosphere

👉 €20–€40 per person is usually more than enough for a pintxos crawl.
