Porto, Portugal

If it’s your first time in Porto, a good food tour can genuinely help you understand the city faster, especially because many traditional spots are small, local and easy to miss.

A strong Porto food tour usually gives you:

  • Local dishes you may not order yourself

  • Context behind Porto food culture

  • Help navigating neighborhoods and local etiquette

  • Wine, petiscos and traditional food in one experience

  • Port Tastings

It’s also useful early in your trip because you’ll usually leave with extra restaurant recommendations for the rest of your stay.

That said, not all food tours are equal. Some feel very touristy and rushed, while others are led by genuinely passionate local guides who know the city inside-out.

One of the tours we’d personally recommend is run by guides who have previously hosted people like Anthony Bourdain and Mark Wiens while filming in Porto, which says a lot about the local knowledge and reputation behind the experience.

Tip: if you do a food tour, book it near the start of your trip rather than the end.
