Geisleralm – A Breathtaking Mountain Escape
The Geisleralm is one of the most stunning spots in the Dolomites, offering incredible photo opportunities and a peaceful retreat. It’s especially magical at sunset, when the mountain peaks are bathed in golden light. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting this gem:
Getting There
Hike Duration: The hike to Geisleralm takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace and starting point. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views along the way.
Parking Options: You can park at the Zanser Alm parking lot, which is a popular starting point for the hike.
It is a paid parking lot. Online Reservations are available (€10 day), but spaces are limited.
If online reservations are unavailable, check the traffic light in Villnöß:
Green: Drive to Zans and buy a ticket on-site.
Red: Zans is full, access only with an online reservation.
Alternative parking is in St. Magdalena (Ranui, Putzen, Filler), serviced hourly by bus line 330 to Zans.

Unique Details: Around the area, you’ll find wooden benches and other seating areas that make for great foreground elements in your photos.

If you time your visit for sunset, you’ll be treated to a spectacular show as the mountains light up in vibrant golden and orange hues.
3. Patience Pays Off
On cloudy days, the mountain peaks may be hidden, but don’t let that discourage you! I’ve been here many times, and even when the mountains are obscured 99% of the time, the clouds often part briefly, revealing the peaks in all their glory.
Practical Tips
Bring Time: If the weather is cloudy, plan to stay a bit longer to increase your chances of seeing the peaks (I waited there a couple to times for hours, and sometimes I had luck and the clouds disappeared for a couple of minutes). You can relax on the above the pond.
Stay Hydrated: Refill your bottle with the fresh mountain spring water from the fountain—it’s delicious and refreshing.
