Bukchon Hanok Village is a super cool neighborhood in Seoul, Korea that's famous for its traditional Korean homes called Hanoks. It used to be home to fancy government officials and nobility, so you know these Hanoks are legit. The village is located near Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace, and it's also close to the popular Insadong district. But here's the thing, it's still a residential area, so don't go barging into people's houses. Also, these Hanok houses are used a lot these days as photo-studios and exhibition rooms. So let's be respectful, keep our voices down, and don't leave trash lying around. And if you're looking for a unique place to stay, there are some awesome Hanok guesthouses where you can experience traditional Korean living.
Things to do:
1. There are actually 2 sides of Bukchon, which means it is much bigger than tourists usually think it is. (It also, took me a while to know this)
There is a left side - that main road you see a lot on the Internet (touristic side) and the right side, where you can enter Hanok for free, look around, and also take part in local experience events. My advice is, if you don't like crowded places, spend less time on the left side and enjoy the right side more.
Here is the Naver address for the right side: 서울특별시 종로구 북촌로12길 20
2. And of course, don't forget to capture your trip to Bukchon with us! As people who visit Bukchon Hanok Village for photoshoots at least 2-3 times a week, we know many cute spots, which we can share while having your memories captured. Don't hesitate to call us as your local friends!
3. Before you go up(to the left main sightseeing street) there will be an ice cream shop. I recommend grabbing an ice-cream (chocolate flavor is best there) and enjoying the street while having some delicious ice cream :).
When going down, at the same ice cream shop, they sell "Omuk". After a tiring street sightseeing having that one is very relieving haha.
4. And lastly! What I consider the gem of the Bukchon, is the Ajeossi (means a man around 40 y.o) selling Yot! It's the real Jam! Yot is a Korean traditional sweet (the one he makes is made out of pumpkin and honey) and it is usually used when you catch a soar throat. He also says it's good for digestion. The best way to feel korean food and culture!
P.S he is not always there, so if you catch him, you are very lucky.
