What to expect

Tiger Leaping Gorge is a rugged, high-altitude hiking spot best known for dramatic river views and cliffside trails. You can reach the Scenic spot from Lijiang by bus or private driver in a couple of hours, expect bumpy mountain roads and patchy cell signal, and plan your day around weather and daylight rather than strict mileage. At the scenic spot you'll find plenty of angles to capture the roaring river.

How to get there
• 2.5–3 hrs drive from Lijiang
• Enter via Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area gate
• Shuttle buses connect main viewing platforms
• Escalators will take you directly to the river-level viewpoints

Best time to visit

The river is extremely powerful from March - August due to rain season during which the river can turn brown. If you visit from September - December the river will be shimmering in an electric blue which is great for capturing content
