It is definitely worth investing in a pair of Binoculars, you can purchase them from Walmart and collect from the Bozeman store when you arrive.
most stores will allow you to "try before you buy" test different models so you can feel the weight, comfort, and focus mechanism.
For most visitors:
8×42 or 10×42 binoculars are ideal.
8× gives a wider field of view and is steadier.
10× offers more reach but requires steadier hands.
If you plan on spending lots of time in Lamar or Hayden Valleys, a spotting scope on a tripod is a major advantage.
Knowing likely habitats (open meadows, riverbanks, forest edges) increases your success.
