Miradouro do Monte Agudo ("Monte Agudo viewpoint") is perhaps Lisbon's most underrated viewpoints, if compared to the ones located in the neighborhoods of Graça, Alfama and Bairro Alto. Its distance from the Tejo river and from the most notable tourist attractions might have an effect on it.

It was inaugurated in 1950 and overlooks the central and Northern portions of the city, namely the surroundings of the Avenida Almirante Reis ("Almirante Reis Avenue") area, between the Arroios, Anjos, Intendente and Graça neighborhoods. In other words, a scarcely explored part of the city.

This place is not frequently in the radar screen of tourists and is mostly visited by locals, looking for a quiet place to sit down, relax, drink a beer or some coffee and enjoy the greenery as well as the sunset. Residents also walk their dogs up there.

There is a lovely kiosk serving snacks and drinks. They also make available a few comfortable chairs and tables for their costumers every day. But there is plenty of space for everyone at Miradouro do Monte Agudo, as some people prefer to sit on the floor at an elevated portion of the park, at the public benches or even just stand.

Just like any viewpoint in Lisbon, it is situated up in a hill, namely on top of Colina de Santo André ("Sant Andrew's hill"). Do make sure you have the energy and time to walk up there by foot. One can access both entrances by car, but either stairs or uphill walking are unavoidable. Enjoy!
