Layers & Clothing
Waterproof & windproof jacket – weather can shift quickly
Insulating layer – fleece or light down jacket
Breathable hiking pants – not jeans
Extra warm layer – for breaks or sudden cold
Hat & gloves – even in summer
Buff or scarf – wind, sun, or sudden chill
Proper hiking socks – at least one spare pair
Sun hat or cap – alpine sun is intense
Footwear
Sturdy hiking boots – with ankle support
Lightweight shoes – for evenings in huts or around camp
Gear & Safety
Daypack – with chest/hip straps for comfort
Map + offline hiking app – reception isn’t guaranteed
Headlamp – always bring one, even for day hikes
Microspikes (Grödeln) – for early season or shady, icy trails
Trekking poles – optional, but very helpful
Reusable water bottle or hydration bladder
Snacks – energy bars, nuts, dried fruit
Emergency blanket – ultralight and useful
