With its steep orange walls and narrow, curving passages, it’s the type of place you could wander around in for hours, taking in the incredible views. Visitors can book one-hour tours through Lower Antelope Canyon with either Ken's Tours or Dixie Ellis' Tours, depending on availability. The tour includes a guide and gives you the chance to experience the canyon's narrow passages and ladders. Get ready for scenic beauty, incredible light beams, and some photogenic surprises!
As a photographer, you may not unfortunately bring a tri-pod into this canyon- but its for sure something you don't want to miss if you've never seen it! I highly recommend scheduling a tour with Lower Antelope Canyon, the best light during a sunny day is early morning and late afternoon year round. The way that the light comes in at an angle during this time brings out the greatest variety of colors, most of those colors get washed out in the midday light. Bring a wide angel lens that can shoot in low light, I prefer my 12-24mm 2.8 for this location.
Be aware that during monsoon season in the late summer months the canyons can be subject to flash flooding in which your tour will be cancelled. It is extremely dangerous to be inside the canyon if theres any chance of flash flood.
Dogs are NOT allowed on this short guided hike, and I recommend if you are visiting with your dog not to come in the summer months- as if you are leaving them in the car for the duration of the tour it's too hot. Tours last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Make sure to bring some extra cash to tip your guide :) I recommend going with Dixie’s Lower Antelope Canyon Tours, but Ken's tours is also a great choice if Dixie is booked.
The nearby town of Page Arizona has a plethora of camping spots! We always use Page Lake Powell Campground to shower, as there is never a wait for showers, they are hot and unlimited for $5.50 per person. Walmart is always a popular spot for vans, and theres usually plenty of people camping in the parking lot. For camping, if you have 4x4 we love Beehive campground. No reservations. $14 per night. 6 designated sites. Across the highway from Wahweap South Entrance. Picnic table at each site. No hookups, dump station, or restrooms. Pack it in, pack it out. No campfires or glass containers. Three night camping limit. The views in the morning here are incredible, and theres plenty of sandstone to hike with your dog in the area.
