CICC Mission House – A Spiritual and Historical Landmark in Rarotonga

The CICC Mission House, located in the Nikao Tapere area of Avarua District, Rarotonga, serves as the administrative headquarters for the Cook Islands Christian Church (CICC). Established in 1943, the Mission House has been central to the church's operations and community outreach.​

Historical Significance

In 1943, the first Mission House was constructed on this land and was officially opened on 22 January 1944, under the leadership of Minister Robert Sema. Initially, church services were held on the porch of the Mission House. The foundation of the first church was laid on 27 November 1946, with Minister Pareina Ngatupuna presiding. The church was officially opened on 18 December 1954, led by Minister Pureau Akerauara. Due to the expansion of the International Airport in the early 1970s, the church was relocated to its current site in Tepuka, Nikao, with the new building completed and opened in November 1972. During the construction phase, services were held in the Air New Zealand Hangar

While the Mission House is primarily an administrative center, it holds historical and cultural significance for those interested in the development of Christianity in the Cook Islands. Visitors can learn about the church's evolution and its impact on the local community. The Mission House is located at Ara Metua, Avarua District, Nikao Tapere, with operating hours from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday (closed on public holidays). ​
