Recommend adding this walk to your list if you are in the area and have a spare hour, the 360' views are spectacular.

There are three tracks to reach the top. One is through the beach and then to the track. The average time is 30 minutes. The second track is to follow the road that goes to an end and then walk up the track, the third is by car.

Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve in Northland is a spot with a lot of history! It used to be occupied by Māori before becoming the site of some intense flagpole drama. Hone Heke and crew cut down the first four flagstaffs in protest, sparking some Northland wars. The fifth flagstaff, put up in 1858, symbolized unity between Māori and Pakeha. Today, you can visit this reserve, check out the flagstaff made from Kauri wood, and enjoy awesome views of Russell, Paihia, Waitangi, and the Bay's islands. It's a cool place to soak up some history and take in the scenery!
