If you want to experience a hands-on introduction to the coffee production process on a 100+ year old coffee farm - this is the place to go!

Being in the middle of the "zone cafeteria" the coffee region of Colombia, the most obvious thing to do is to visit an authentic coffee farm. But not just any, one of the oldest in the area. Don Eduardo is a family-owned Colombian coffee farm located just on the edge of the town. A 5 minute walk from the town center, Plaza de Bolívar. The owner Tim, locally known as Don Eduardo, is a charming English-Australian old guy that truly shows his passion for his craft. Surrounded by his 5 dogs (or even more by the time you're visiting) he will sit down with you at a wooden table in a cabana nestled in coffee plants and tell you the story of this place and the coffee they grow. While he explains the process he really wants you to be as engaged as possible. We got to pick the beans, crack open the coffee cherries, peel the beans, roast them, smell them and taste the coffee. And he will answer any question you might have, even when it's just related to Salento and what to do in the area. A real local gem. Since it was a quite rainy day when we got there, we were the only two people and he gave us a private tour for the same price as usual - how lovely is that?! Since he is already an elderly guy, he got one of his employees to come up from the plantation and take us down to show us around. In slow Spanish for us to understand, he walked us through the plantation to the "production house" where they produce the coffee they sell. There he offered us bananas fresh from the tree, showed us the little farm they have there and really made us feel welcome there.

Honestly, this tour was such an amazing experience and if you have a morning to spare in your schedule, definitely go there! You won't regret it!
