Swiss Grand Canyon (Rheinschlucht / Ruinaulta) Introduction 🏞️⛰️

• Location📍: Located in Graubünden, Switzerland, between Ilanz and Reichenau, it is a canyon formed by the Vorderrhein River cutting through the Alps, also known as the "Swiss Grand Canyon" or the "Grand Canyon of the Alps."

• Natural Formation🌋: About 10,000 years ago, one of the largest landslides in history occurred in the Flims area, blocking the river with debris. After tens of thousands of years of erosion, the winding and magnificent canyon landscape we see today was formed.

• Scenic Features🌄:

  • The canyon is up to 400 meters deep, with white limestone cliffs on both sides, intertwining with lush green forests and blue-green river water to create a spectacular scene.

  • The river water is crystal clear, making it a popular spot for kayaking, rafting, and photography.

  • Suitable for all seasons: vibrant green in spring and summer, red maple leaves in autumn, and snow-white rock walls in winter.

• Viewing Hotspots👀:

  • Il Spir viewing platform: One of the best viewpoints, accessible from the Conn trail.

  • Trin, Versam, Valendas and other stations: You can enjoy the canyon scenery during the train journey, and some stations allow you to get off for hiking.

  • There are multiple hiking trails and forest viewing platforms along the way, suitable for multi-day hikes.

  • Take the Reichenau–Tamins to Ilanz section of the Rhaetian Railway. The train travels along the canyon, offering spectacular views.
