How to get there

There are 2 options for airports near Jasper. First option is to fly into Calgary International Airport & drive 3 1/2 hrs to Jasper. This route would allow for stopping in Banff & driving the Icefields Parkway.

If you want to skip over all of that, you can fly into Edmonton and it would still be 3 1/12 hr drive.

I personally would suggest flying into Calgary, stopping in Banff & driving Icefields Parkway, then flying home from Edmonton which would allow you to see more of Canada!

Where to stay

We camped at Whistler's Campground. It cost $42.50 per night with no fire pit or $56.25 per night with a fire pit for a full hook up site. You can also tent camp or stay with no services for less. More camping information here

The only hotel we have stayed at is Pyramid Lake Lodge - this one is just outside of the down town area so its not great for walkability to shops but the views from this hotel make up for that!

Parking in town

There's only one free parking lot in town, the rest is all paid by hour parking. The address of th

e free parking lot is 607 Connaught Dr, Jasper, AB T0E 0A8

Best time to visit

The best time to visit is July & August with weather being the best those times. It will be busier during those months so other "shoulder season" times to visit where you are still likely to get good weather is May-June & September.

How long do you need?

One weekend would be enough time to do all the most popular things, but you could spend a week here and not get bored!

Post Fires

In 2024 the park suffered a major wild fire. You will see the damages when you visit the park and some popular spots are still closed and will likely be closed for a while. You can keep up to date with closures here

Popular spots that are closed:

Maligne Canyon

Valley of 5 lakes trail

Mount Edith Cavell Trail

Tonquin Valley - Astoria River
