Bassin Cormoran is a tucked-away freshwater pool with a short, scenic trail and cool water to swim in — perfect if you're around Saint-Gilles and want something green and quiet. The trail runs through a forested canyon with ferns, vines, and birdsong, ending in a rocky basin fed by a small cascade. The water’s cold, clear, and deep enough to float or dip.
Access:
Start from Chemin de l'Éperon near Saint-Gilles-les-Bains
Follow the marked trail (~15–20 mins) through light forest and across small streams
Trail ends at the natural pool, surrounded by dark volcanic rock
Some slippery stones and roots on the way — not flip-flop terrain
It’s a good alternative to the beach, especially in the late morning when the canyon lights up. Locals come here to cool off or picnic — go early or late to avoid the weekend crowds.
👉 Local tip: Bring water shoes or trail sandals — the rocks in the basin are sharp and slick. And check water levels after heavy rain; the path can flood quickly.
