My Favourite Tours in Tromsø
I recommend booking at least one of these to make your trip truly unforgettable

Tromsø, Norway
One of the most common question is: “Which activities should I book?"
And honestly — I get it, Tromsø is one of those rare places where everything sounds incredible, from chasing the northern lights to sledding with huskies across snow-covered landscapes.
To help you plan the perfect Arctic adventure, I’ve rounded up my 5 favourite tours and activities in Tromsø — the ones I’d book again in a heartbeat. Whether you’re into wildlife, local culture, dramatic fjords or pure winter magic, there’s something here for you.
You definitely don’t need to do them all (though I wouldn’t blame you), just pick the ones that excite you the most — and try to book in advance, especially in peak season.
🐋 Whale Watching by Boat
If seeing whales or orcas is on your Arctic bucket list, Tromsø is one of the best places in Europe to do it. The best time to see them is in winter (especially from November to January), when orcas and humpback whales migrate to the fjords to feed on herring.
The boat ride itself is stunning — dramatic views over the Lyngen Alps, quiet fjords, and that soft Arctic light. Just remember: it’s cold out there , so layer up and bring gloves, even if you're staying indoors on the boat. And don't forget to bring some seasickness tablets as the Arctic seas can be a bit rough.

🌌 Northern Lights Tour + Dinner
Chasing the northern lights is magical — but it’s even better when you do it with a knowledgeable guide (and a warm dinner by a campfire).
This tour is great if you want to learn about the science and stories behind the aurora while staying warm around a fire and well-fed with some home-made soup and biscuits. You’ll be taken to the best possible spot based on real-time weather forecasts — meaning your chances of seeing them go way up.

🦌 Sami Experience & Reindeer Sledding
The highlight or my trips to Tromsø was spending time with the Sámi community, learning about their culture, stories, and traditional way of life.
You'll also get to feed and ride with the reindeer — and it’s surprisingly peaceful. Afterward, warm up inside the lavvu (a traditional tent) with a bowl of stew and listen to joik (traditional Sámi singing). Truly unforgettable.
🛷 Dog Sledding (Husky Tour)
There’s just something about flying through snow-covered valleys, pulled by an excited team of huskies, that makes you feel alive.
This is one of Tromsø’s most popular activities — and for good reason. Some tours even let you mush the sled yourself, but you can also just sit back and enjoy the ride. Either way, it’s the kind of thing you’ll be smiling about for days.
🌊 Sommarøy & Kvaløya Island Day Trip
If you’re after fjord views, Arctic beaches, and jaw-dropping landscapes, this day trip is for you. You can totally explore both islands on your own if you've rented a car, but if you are travelling to Tromsø on a budget or didn't want to rent a car, then this tour allows you to explore one of the beautiful Norwegian islands! ⬇
Sommarøy feels like a different world — tiny islands, turquoise water, snowy peaks — and Kvaløya (Whale Island) is equally spectacular. You’ll stop at scenic viewpoints, quiet fishing villages, and (if you're lucky) maybe even spot reindeer along the way. Perfect for photography lovers and slow adventurers.
