You can't miss Oyama Shrine in Kanazawa - literally! The gate looks like someone dropped a piece of Amsterdam into Japan, and once you see it, you'll find yourself drawn to walk through it every time you pass by (we sure did!). It's this wonderfully weird mix of European and Japanese architecture that somehow totally works.

The story behind it is pretty cool - it's dedicated to Maeda Toshiie, the OG lord of Kanazawa, but what makes it stand out is that wild Dutch-designed gate. In a city full of traditional architecture, this place basically said "Let's try something different" and went for it.

While the gate steals the show with its stained glass and European vibes, don't miss the garden with those musical instrument-shaped bridges. It's like the shrine couldn't decide between being Japanese, European, or a music conservatory, so it just decided to be all three!
