Landmannalaugar is our favorite place in Iceland and has the best views we've ever seen. To get here, you can only drive the road f208 with a 4 wheel drive licensed for f roads in iceland. We recommend to stay at the camping for which you need to cross 2 deep rivers (river crossings are not insured with any rental company). If you want to avoid crossing the rivers, we recommend to park your car at the car park located just before the river crossings https://maps.app.goo.gl/hvmCY9XLFFZvfjt68 which you need to pre book. That way you can only do Landmannalaugar as a day tour as you are not allowed to stay in the car park overnight. For a self organized day tour, you need to leave earlier than sunrise from the main road onto f208 to make the most out of your day. As an alternative, you can also take a organised day tour which is marked on the booking page of my guide.

There are so many hikes to do here but we recommend to hike to the rainbow valley viewpoint which is described in the pin next to Landmannalaugar.
