Stazione Napoli Afragola

If you're coming to Naples from another big city, then you will get the high speed Frecciarossa train directly to Napoli's central station.

Stazione Napoli Afragola is an Italian high-speed railway station located near Naples. This modern and revolutionary train station was designed by Zaha Hadid, a British-Iraqi architect and officially opened on June 6th 2017. It is meant to be the 'Gateway to the South' as it serves four individual high-speed lines, three inter-regional lines, and a single local commuter route. The station boasts large glass panels with winding shapes that evoke images of a moving train and a four-level complex which includes public amenities such as retail outlets, waiting areas and restaurants. Additionally, the interior has been specifically designed with energy saving in mind, using passive means such as cooling with ground water and internal shading and acoustic baffles for better temperature control. Ultimately, this modern railway station was developed to meet Italy’s transportation needs while also having minimal environmental impact.

5

Mercato della Pignasecca

Sightseeing

Mercato della Pignasecca

The Mercato della Pignasecca is an amazing journey into the world of Naples. Its colorful street side stalls sell Neapolitan hip hop CDs, oh-so-snug 'nonna' slippers and discounted perfumes as well as fresh produce from fish to fruits and vegetables. Strolling through the market allows for a multisensory escapade with fragrant delis and knowledgeable homemakers on the hunt for perfect products. On street corners, vendors offer sweet and savoury culinary treats and cups of hot coffee to refuel. Exploring the market even further will lead to shoemaker workshops, art galleries and small churches where local traditions are kept alive. It's a place where locals go to rub elbows, as much as buy produce, or simply experience the unique atmosphere. With its lively atmosphere and array of goods, the Pignasecca Market is sure to be a highlight for travelers looking for authentic experiences in Naples.

6

Quartieri Spagnoli

Sightseeing

Quartieri Spagnoli

After having satisfied your craving for sweets, I suggest you take a nice walk in the Spanish Quarters. Walk the streets without following any itinerary. Visit the oldest market in Naples, the Pignasecca market. Get lost in the alleys. Savor moments of life: from the mother scolding her son, with the class that only Neapolitans have. From the boy who leaves the bread in the bucket, to the lady who will thank him and pull him up with the pulley. To the most photographed cloths of Italy. To cars parked against other cars (no, it's not a figure of speech!), to Maradona's murals. In short, taste the life of Naples, to try to understand it better.

7

Gino e Toto Sorbillo

餐厅

Gino e Toto Sorbillo

The Quartieri Spagnoli are quite uphill, so you will have already prepared the calories burned for what I suggest you do now: treat yourself to a nice fried pizza at Sorbillo! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water, so much so that I would take a plane to Naples just for HER. The only flaw, but you'll have to get used to it in Naples: it's strictly take-away only. There are very few places in Naples where you can sit down to enjoy something quick.

8

Via Toledo - shopping

Via Toledo - shopping

Located in the historic center of Naples, the vibrant Via Toledo is one of the city’s main shopping streets. Stretching from Piazza Dante to Piazza Trieste and Trento, it is lined with stores, boutiques, and eateries offering everything from classic Neapolitan fashion to modern Italian trends. Don't forget to explore the art-deco shops along Galleria Umberto I, or take some time out of your shopping frenzy to learn more about the many historic monuments along the route, such as the Real Teatro di San Carlo and Royal Palace. Come, explore and shop til you drop on Via Toledo!

Remember to visit the Naples Metro, especially the "Toledo" stop. Defined by "The Daily Telegraph" as the most beautiful subway in Europe.

9
