We might drive differently than you do back home, so follow these rules!

New Zealand

Driving in New Zealand is one of the best ways to explore the country, but there are a few important things to keep in mind. We drive on the left hand side of the road, and many roads, especially in rural or mountainous areas, can be narrow, winding, and without barriers. Take your time, drive to the conditions, and always be cautious around corners. You’ll likely encounter one lane bridges, where signs will indicate who has the right of way. Be sure to plan your fuel stops, as some areas (like the West Coast or inland South Island) have long stretches with no petrol stations. Always wear your seatbelt, avoid driving when tired, and remember, it’s important to pull over and let faster drivers pass when safe to do so. The journey is part of the adventure, so take it slow and enjoy the ride!
