Bishkek is the capital of Kyrgyzstan and the main entry point into the mountainous country. With the towering snowy peaks of the Tian Shan Mountain Range surrounding the city outskirts, incredible nature is right at the city’s doorstep. However, before you head for the mountains, it’s worth exploring Bishkek’s main attractions for an insight into the history and culture of Kyrgyzstan.
How long to stay? While most travellers arrive at the airport and lease ASAP, I recommend spending a day or two in the city to acclimatise to the country.
How to get there? Manas International Airport is around 25km north of the city centre and can take around an hour to reach or more, depending on traffic. Grab a Yandex (like Uber), taxi, or the local marshrutka bus #380 to get into the city.
