Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada's first state park, is a hiker's paradise. It was formed by erosion and faulting, resulting in the wild Aztec sandstone formations. Iron oxide, combined with silica and manganese, shaped the formations, giving the park a fiery look at sunset. At Valley of Fire, visitors can explore stunning landscapes like petrified trees, winding slot canyons, and formations, like Elephant Rock and the Beehives. On the hike from Atlatl Rock, visitors can even see ancient petroglyphs and their depictions of an atlatl, an ancient spear-launching device. Visitors who wish to relax can stay at one of two campgrounds or nearby hotels in Overton, Mesquite, Henderson, or Las Vegas Strip (an hour away). With so many activities, from hiking to golfing to relaxing at a spa, Valley of Fire State Park is sure to provide a fun and fascinating experience.
