Piazza del Popolo, Rome is a large urban square located in one of the city's historic northern gates. It is well known by travelers who visit the place to witness the enormous Sety I Obelisk, 24 metres tall and the matching palazzi that provide encasement for the twin Churchs of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Santa Maria In Montesanto which are flanked by Bernini-designed lion fountains. Visitors can take a tour of Porta del Popolo or wander through the gardens of Pincio, an oasis amongst Rome's hustle bustle. The piazza also includes a Carabinieri station with a beautiful dome indistinguishable from that of the adjacent church.
