The Leasowes – A Whimsical Woodland Escape
Honestly, I was SO surprised when we started walking around this place; it feels a bit magical, and there's so many points to keep the kids entertained all the way round. You’ll find woodland trails, streams, gentle waterfalls, ponds and some lovely views all tucked away in this peaceful pocket of nature at the back of Mucklow's Hill 😆
The Walk
There are a few circular routes to choose from, most around 2–2.5 miles. We chose the red route (you can follow our route here) The paths wind through shaded trees, over little wooden bridges, past trickling streams and even a waterfall. It’s got that “secret garden” feel that keeps the kids curious and moving.
The Playground
There is a play area here… but it’s well overdue a refurb and totally lets the place down if I'm honest. It’ll do for a quick climb and a swing break, but the real magic is in the walk itself.
It’s so unexpectedly beautiful here, I was so surprised that all this is literally at the back of Mucklow's Hill!
📍 Good to Know
Free parking right near the main entrance
Toilets not available
Not really suitable for buggies because of the steps we had to go up to get to the viewpoint at the top
Dogs welcome
Take snacks or a picnic; no café on-site
This place is a gem for a free afternoon out; quiet, green and totally underrated. Just don’t rely on the playground to impress the kids, it’s the waterfalls and winding woodland that steal the show.
