The Makāula 'O'oma Trails in the Honua'ula Forest Reserve offer a lush and cool escape from the hot Kona coast. With a variety of trails and old roads to explore, hikers can wander through the beautiful ʻōhiʻa and hāpuʻu tree fern forest. The trail system is about 4.5 miles round trip, but you can customize your hike for a shorter outing. Just make sure to wear sturdy waterproof boots, bring raingear, and pack some mosquito repellent for a comfortable trek. And don't forget to be respectful of the area and its residents by removing all trash and keeping an eye out for private property boundaries. Happy hiking!
