Mount Maroon is a mountain in South East Queensland, part of the McPherson Range, standing tall at 966 meters above sea level. Its original indigenous name, Wahlmoorum, means sand goanna in the Yuggera language. The mountain is mainly composed of rhyolite and offers areas of montane heath vegetation and rocky pavement. In 1938, it was gazetted as Mount Maroon National Park and later included in Mount Barney National Park. Fun fact: A daring bull mastiff named Diff made headlines in 2008 when it had to be rescued via helicopter after slipping over a ledge.
