The story of the "Silver Darlings" is all about herrings in Scotland. Back in the day, these little fish were a big deal, providing a cheap and plentiful source of food for the Scottish folks. Fishermen would chase after shoals of herrings along the West Coast, and by 1907, the herring industry was booming with millions of barrels of fish being caught, cured, and exported. It was a whole operation, with men doing the fishing and the 'herring lasses' gutting and packing the fish. Just imagine the hustle and bustle of those times!
