Ponte Umberto I, also known as Ponte Umberto is a part of Roman history! This bridge, connecting the Palace of Justice to the area around Piazza Navona was designed by architect Angelo Vescovali and opened in 1895. With a length of 105 meters, this structure of masonry arches covered with travertine and stone of Subiaco crosses the River Tiber, past the rioni Ponter and Prati. What makes it truly unique is that the bridge carries a road with two lanes in each direction- most unusual for a road in Italy - this road drives on the left! A much-needed addition then and now, Ponte Umberto I contributes to the history of Rome!
