The most famous street in Iceland is Laugavegur (water road). It‘s modern look combined with its rich history make it a fun place to explore. Way before being a well-known spot for shopping, restaurants, cafes, and bars, Laugavegur was the street that Icelandic women walked up and down lugging their family‘s laundry to the natural hot springs in Laugadalur valley.

This street is one of the oldest in the city and it dates back to the 19th century. The most popular part of the street is from Hlemmur, a bus station and food hall, to Bankastræti. As you walk along Laugavegur, you’ll see vibrant street art and loads of places you can pop in to grab food or shop.

Because Laugavegur is in the heart of the downtown area, it’s a great way to start off your exploration of the city. Plus, there are different attractions on this street, like the Magic Ice Bar.
