Sales taxes

New York City is a great place to shop for clothes, electronics, and other products. But remember that the number you see in the price tag is not the final amount you will pay for that product because of the sales taxes.

The % varies by state and city. In New York City, for example, it is 8.875% (state and city taxes). So when you go shopping, remember that every item you buy will have an 8,875% surcharge. Some products are exempt from taxes, such as diapers, medicines, newspapers, magazines, and laundry services, among others – you can check the list here.

But remember: there are no taxes for clothes or shoes priced below $110. It is worth noting that the taxes are calculated per item.
