Mallorca is perfect for a road trip, whether by car, camper, scooter or motorbike. The island’s diverse landscapes – rugged mountains, winding coastal roads, and charming villages – make every drive an adventure. Here are some of the most scenic routes and tips:
Ma-10 Serra de Tramuntana Road: This winding mountain road takes you through the heart of the Tramuntana mountains, offering breathtaking views over cliffs, valleys and coastal stretches. Key stops: Albercutx Watchtower, Puig Caragolí viewpoints, Valldemossa and Sóller. Drive carefully on narrow sections.
Formentor Peninsula: A must-do coastal drive leading to Platja de Formentor and the iconic lighthouse. The route includes hairpin bends and spectacular seaside views - perfect for early morning to catch the sunrise.
South Coast to Es Trenc & Colònia de Sant Jordi: A calmer drive along the south coast leads to crystal-clear beaches and hidden coves. Ideal for stopping at Cala Barraqueta des Motor or a quick swim at Es Trenc.
Coastal Drive to Andratx & Sant Elm: A mix of cliffside roads and small villages. Perfect for visiting Cala Fornells, boutique wineries like Terra IóN or enjoying a seaside lunch.
Tips for Driving in Mallorca:
Start early to avoid traffic, especially in high season (June–August).
Watch for narrow mountain roads in Tramuntana; drive slowly and enjoy the scenery.
Bring a camera – almost every stop is picture-perfect.
Fuel stations are mostly in towns; plan ahead on mountain roads.
Consider scooter or motorbike for shorter, coastal trips - easier parking and flexibility.
A Mallorca road trip combines nature, culture, freedom, and breathtaking views, letting you explore hidden gems off the beaten path.
