The Sand Museum in Tottori, Japan is a unique and captivating facility that showcases some of the best sand sculptures in the world. Each year new exhibitions are featured with themes from regions such as Southeast Asia and South America, or countries including Great Britain and Germany. The Sand Museum opened in 2006 and in 2011 became the world's first indoor sand sculpture exhibition. One of the museum's most beloved characteristics is the impermanence of the sand, which links to the Japanese virtue of appreciating that which is not permanent. Visitors can access the attractions via rail, bus or plane. The Tottori Sakyu Conan Airport is two kilometers away and connects Tokyo to Tottori in less than an hour. The sand dunes are also conveniently located 20 minutes away from the nearby Tottori station. No matter what method of travel, anyone visiting should prepare for a fun and stimulating experience!
