Ingjaldshólskirkja is a historic site in West Iceland on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It was originally owned by the wealthy Sturlunga Clan in the 12th and 13th centuries, but later became part of the monastery at Helgafell. The church there is the oldest concrete church in the world, and it served a large congregation until the 19th century. As an additional bonus, this was the place where Christopher Columbus stayed during the winter of 1477-78! Behind the church stands a monument dedicated to Eggert Ólafsson and Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir. The monument of two large rocks weighs 9 tonnes and offers views of Breiðafjörður bay and Snæfellsjökull glacier. A little bit further than Ingjaldshóll at Háholt is a view-dial displaying the names and heights of the surrounding mountains. Visiting this area requires renting a car in Reykjavik and spending a few days exploring the whole Snæfellsnes peninsula. There's plenty of amazing things to see and do while you're there, and it might even be worth fighting off aggressive Arctic Terns just for a chance to experience it!
