Ptuj, located in the eastern part of Slovenia, is the country's oldest recorded town. Ptuj is small but very cute and makes a great destination for a day trip from Maribor. Don't forget to visit the castle!

Ptuj is also known for its vibrant Kurentovanje carnival, where locals dress up as mythical creatures to scare off evil spirits. This event happens every year during carnival.
