Monteriggioni is a beautifully preserved medieval town in Tuscany, built by the Sienese in the 13th century to defend against Florentine expansion. Its iconic circular walls, crowned with 14 square towers, inspired even Dante Alighieri, who referenced the town in The Divine Comedy.

The walls, still largely intact, follow the natural contours of the hill and enclose the charming village, accessible via two gates: Porta Franca, along the Via Francigena pilgrimage route, and Porta San Giovanni, facing Florence. Inside, the main square, Piazza Roma, features the Romanesque-Gothic Church of Santa Maria Assunta.

The village also offers artisan shops, local wines, and traditional Tuscan cuisine.

Each July, Monteriggioni hosts the famous medieval festival "Monteriggioni di Torri si Corona", with period costumes, musicians, and reenactments that bring history to life.

The town is also featured in the Assassin’s Creed video game series.

Located 14 km from Siena and 54 km from Florence, Monteriggioni is accessible by car via the Via Cassia (SS2), with both free and paid parking available nearby.
