Naryn is the main town in the Naryn Region in central Kyrgyzstan. While the town itself is not overly exciting, similar to Kochkor, it's used as a based for exploring more remote parts of the country.

From Naryn, most travellers are looking to head further south towards the Chinese border to places like Kel Suu lake and Tash Rabat caravanserai. You'll most likely stay a night in Naryn, before heading off for these places.

The CBT Office (community based tourism) in Naryn is very helpful in arranging border permits for those wanting to get to Kel Suu. Plus, they can also arrange groups and drivers for a 3-day driving trip to Tash Rabat + Kel Suu.

How to get there? There are marshrutkas leaving early in the morning from Bishkek, Karakol, and Kochkor for Naryn. Otherwise, you could also try for a shared taxi, which only leave when full. Most people come from Kochkor, which is only about a 3-4 hour drive away.

Where to stay? Naryn has a few good guesthouses to stay in for a night or two when passing through and/or arranging trips to Kel Suu.
