This is actually one of the oldest souqs in the Arab world! For centuries, this market served as a trading hub for goods arriving in Muscat’s harbour from India, China, and other regions.

The narrow alleyways are packed with little shops selling spices, perfumes, silver jewelry, textiles, and just about everything in between.

It’s busy, a little chaotic, and very sensory - smells, colours, people calling you into their shops.

The best time to go is after 4pm. Like many places in Oman, it closes in the early afternoon (around 1pm) and then comes back to life in the evening. That’s when it feels the most atmospheric!

Even if you’re not planning to buy anything, it’s worth wandering through just to soak it in.

Notes

  • Combine with Mutrah Corniche - they’re right next to each other.

  • Expect light bargaining in some shops.

  • It can feel touristy, but still very much part of local life.
