Naryn is a town in central Kyrgyzstan, serving as the regional administrative center of Naryn Region. Established in 1868 as a fortress on a caravan route, it sits on the picturesque banks of the Naryn River. With an estimated population of around 41,988 in 2023, Naryn is known for its role as a transport hub connecting Kyrgyzstan to China. The town is home to the University of Central Asia and boasts a cold semi-arid climate with strong continental influences. Despite being the poorest region in the country, Naryn thrives on animal husbandry, particularly horse, sheep, and yak farming.
