When you ride the Tenguyama Ropeway up to the summit in Hokkaido, expect a short cable-car trip that puts you at a small, exposed observation area with sweeping views of Otaru Bay and the Sea of Japan, especially striking at sunset and after dark. Visibility can be lost to fog and it is often noticeably colder and windier up top, so bring a jacket.
