The Karikari Peninsula is a slice of coastal paradise packed to the brim with white-sand beaches, campsites, and coastal walking trails. I've seen dolphins every time I’ve visited!
Far too many people make the journey to see the Bay of Islands or Cape Reinga and miss exploring off the usual “tourist route”. But if you’re road-tripping in the Northland, I really recommend coming here. I last visited in winter 2024 (when these photos were taken), and even though it was windy, the views made it feel like I’d been whisked away to the tropics!
How to get there
The Karikari Peninsula is around 1.5 hours from the Bay of Islands. Head north on State Highway 10 towards Kaitaia until you turn onto Inland Road which will take you directly onto the peninsula.
