Via Ferrata means 'iron road' in Italian and refers to a climbing route with fixed metal steps and handles. Climbers are safely anchored to the rock at all times with a cable system. It's climbing with all of the views and fun but without the stress!
Kicking Horse Mountain has three Via Ferrata routes, all accessible via the scenic gondola. Choose between Pioneer (1 hour) to Ascension (3 hours). All start with a walk across an airy suspension bridge. We tried the Discovery tour (2 hour) and loved the challenge!
Via Ferrata tickets at Kicking Horse include access to alpine hiking trails at the top of the chairlift and a trip to the Grizzly Bear Refuge. Boo the rescued grizzly bear lives in 20 acre, wild environment on the slopes of the mountain. It's a great (and more ethical) way to see a grizzly up close, in complete safety.
